DIVINE Breadsticks

There is no better name for these than DIVINE! I thought Cody was going to have a heart attack (okay, so he wasn't quite that enthusiastic, but, he did say they were the best that he had ever eaten!) Anyway, I cannot thank Melanie enough for bring this recipe into my life! It will probably be on our menu weekly, if Cody gets his way! One amazing thing that I love about these is the crispy yet tender bottom of them. Butter is melted in the bottom of the pan prior to baking them, and this really makes those bottoms yummy!

1 ½ cup warm water
1 tablespoon yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
3 ½ cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 Tbs. butter

Mix all ingredients (except butter) and knead for three minutes. Let stand 10 minutes. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Melt 2 Tbs. butter on baking pan (I used a cookie sheet with edges on it). Roll out dough about 1/8-inch thick and cut into strips. Place in butter on the pan and put close together. Sticks may be twisted by themselves or twisted with another strip if desired.

I found that the twisted ones were a bit fluffier, which we loved! Brush an additional 1 Tbs. of butter on top of each individual stick. Sprinkle with garlic salt and parmesan cheese. Cover and let rise 30 minutes. Bake 15 minutes at 375 degrees.

  2. I'm going to try and make these tonight but my question is what kind of yeast do I buy? I've never made home made bread of any kind but know there is active yeast and idk what other kind. Let me know if you can ASAP before I head to the store! Thanks!

  3. Can you put tinfoil on a cookie tray and bake on that? I don't want my tray to be impossible to clean up afterwards.

  5. Hi, I tried making these this evening. When I mixed it and kneaded it, the dough was still runny and very sticky, it was impossible to work with and cut, so I added more flour. It was still sticky and hard to work with, but I made it work. Any ideas on what went wrong? I would love to try it again!

  6. Sara- I am so sorry! Honestly, I still make these at least once a month for my family and devour them every time. I am not sure what went wrong with your dough! The weather can always be a factor, or if you don't add enough flour (which it sounds like you did), or if you didn't knead it long enough. Of course, kneading too long can create tough dough, but it does require SOME kneading. I'm so sorry I wish I was there to help you achieve these delicious breadsticks. Try again and let me know!

  7. Found this recipe via pinterest, and made these tonight! They were seriously amazing- I had to cut my kids off so they would actually eat their dinner! I didn't have any problems with the dough consistency. I do make a lot of yeast breads/doughs and you just can't beat this recipe for a super quick homemade breadstick! I will be making these again and again.

  9. The Thompson Fam...I have never frozen them! I know a lot of people make dough and freeze it and it works like a charm. Unfortunately I've never tried it. Let me know if it works!
